Faith P3
Week 7
FAITH PART 3 - Faith Over Feelings
Big Idea
In this sermon series, the topic is….Faith. In a world were we are constantly experiencing situations that affect our feelings, it is important to keep those feelings in check with what God says. “Feelings are good servants, but terrible masters”. Feelings change, period. However we cannot be in a constant state of change when it comes to actions because of those feelings. Steady, constant, sure, should be our state of faith. Faith not based on what we see, but what we know to be true. Feelings can mislead.
Discussion Questions
- Have you ever felt a certain way, wanted to act on those feelings, but waited? When we wait, we gain perspective. Have you ever been grateful you waited instead of acting on feelings that may have mislead?
- Jeremiah 17:9 says “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?” So if our heart can deceive us, how do we guard against being mislead? How can we use scripture to keep our feelings in check? Accepting Truth of scripture over lies of our feelings is a good place to start.
Prayer Focus
“God give us eyes to see situations for what they really are.” Take a moment to pray before acting. Evaluate how we feel and if it aligns with scripture.
Next Steps
God wants to be a part of our everyday life. Not just when we need him. Scripture calls us to “pray without ceasing” (I Thess 5:16). We practically can do this as we go about our daily lives, continually asking for God to give us right perspective in all things.
Leader Tip
Encourage your group in their faith. Are there areas where they have believed the lie of feelings instead of the truth of scripture? Help them realize God wants to be an every day part of all their lives, not just on Sundays.
